This Scottish Thistle rope plaque was inspired by 9th century ancient Celtic manuscripts which would have been painted by monks onto vellum or calf skin. Legend has it that the thistle was adopted as the symbol of Scotland when an approaching Viking who had stepped on a thistle, cried out in agony. This alerted the sleeping Scottish warriors who duly defeated the invaders. 22 cm. in length.

The Quaich (Scotland's Cup of Friendship) was for centuries, a common domestic utensil which originated in the West Highlands of Scotland. It was the dish from which the Scot supped his porridge and drank his ale. The Quaich became the traditional toasting cup of welcome in Scotland or even good wishes upon farewell or parting. Surviving the centuries and mystique of history it its truly Scotland's Cup of Friendship.
