This Scottish Thistle rope plaque was inspired by 9th century ancient Celtic manuscripts which would have been painted by monks onto vellum or calf skin. Legend has it that the thistle was adopted as the symbol of Scotland when an approaching Viking who had stepped on a thistle, cried out in agony.
